This trip will take you through the different stations of the last week of Jesus’ life. We will start our tour by picking you up from your lodgings and then travelling to Jerusalem.

 

Our day in Jerusalem opens with the iconic view of Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, where we will have an amazing panoramic view of the 4000 year-old city. After parking our car, we will start walking down from the Mount of Olives and our first stop on the way will be the Church of Dominus Flevit. The little teardrop Church of Dominus Flevit, halfway down the western slope of the Mount of Olives, recalls the Gospels, when Jesus wept over the future fate of Jerusalem.

 

After descending down to the foot of the mountain, we'll visit the Church of All Nations in the Garden of Gethsemane, and the Tomb of the Virgin Mary. The Church of All Nations is built over the rock on which Jesus is believed to have prayed in agony the night before his crucifixion. The church and the adjacent Garden of Gethsemane, with its ancient olive trees, provide an evocative place for meditation, especially when visited at night.

 

The Tomb of the Virgin Mary is a Christian tomb in the Kidron Valley at the foot of Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, believed by Eastern Orthodox Christians to be the burial place of Mary, the mother of Jesus. The large crypt containing the empty tomb in the Church of the Assumption is all that remains of an early fifth-century church, making it possibly the oldest nearly-complete religious building in Jerusalem.

 

From the Kidron Valley we'll climb into the old city of Jerusalem. Our first visit inside the great city walls will be to the Church of Saint Anne in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City. This church was built during the reign of the Crusaders in Jerusalem and was erected near the remains of the Byzantine basilica over the site of a grotto believed by the Crusaders to be the childhood home of the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus. A few meters from this church we will begin walking through the Via Delarosa and its 14 stations. The path we'll walk is believed to be the path that Jesus walked on the way to his crucifixion.

 

After the eighth station, we'll leave the Via Delarosa and go to eat lunch in one of the many restaurants in the Muristan, a complex of streets and shops in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. The site was the location of the first hospital of the Knights Hospitaller.

 

After lunch, we’ll continue to the nearby Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Christianity’s most holy site. This amazing structure was originally built in 335 AC by Queen Helena, and is believed to be the site where Jesus was buried. We will explore the church, learning about its history and traditions and observing the different pilgrims worshiping there.

 

After absorbing the enormity of this holy site, we'll walk through the Old City's narrow streets onto the Roman Cardo, once the main street of Jerusalem over 1500 years ago, and continue out from the walls of the Old city to Mount Zion.

 

On Mount Zion, we'll have our last visit to the Church of Saint Peter in Gallicantu. One of the most striking churches in Jerusalem, it commemorates the Apostle Peter’s triple denial of his master, his immediate repentance and his reconciliation with Christ after the Resurrection.

 

From the church, we'll take a cab back to the Mount of Olives where we parked our car and start our drive back to your lodgings.
