Tor gorge

Please be noted – this rut is not for beginners !

 

Geographical area: ​

North Dead Sea, northern Judean Desert.

Background:

Tor gorge is about 350 meters north to the resort village "Matzukey Dargot" ,the deep gorge

is forming an impressive series of high waterfalls, and as we will stand in the entrance of the

gorge we shall have an impressive view towards the Dead Sea and the Moab Mountains.

Type of trip:

Difficulty moderated to medium, rappelling.

Duration:

up to 10 hours (for the full track, you can alternatively choose to do only the upper part of the gorge).

Trail Outline:

We will meet at 6:30, at a dirt parking lot, on Route 90, between mile stones 260-261, about 2 km north of the "Dragot" checkpoint on rode No. 90.

We will Leave one vehicle at the dirt parking lot, and drive up with the second vehicle  to "Matzukey Dargot" resort , there we will park the car and start our journey.

We shell start walking about 1 km on a comfortable dirt road, after 25-minute we will be on the top of the first waterfall.

Immediately upon entering the gorge we will organize ourselves to breakfast, and make rappelling briefing.

After breakfast we will start travelling the gorge, using rappelling techniques.

The gorge is deep and includes a total of seven waterfalls that require rappelling, which can be allocated as follows:

Upper part -50,60,20,80 meters;

Lower part -20'14'16 meters;

The entire length of the gorge is about 2 km.

In the afternoon, we will have our lunch in the gorge.

Once we will finish rappelling we will continue walking down to road No. 90 there we will meet our car, the drivers will go back up to bring the second vehicle.

Personal Equipment: 

breakfast , lunch, 4.5 liters per person ,  a day backpack (preferably 30 liters at least) for

personal equipment (food and the rappelling equipment), walking shoes (closed shoe only),

sandals / slippers (in the car for after the trip), hat, light clothing, a flashlight, long hiking pants

(not jeans), treats, mosquito repellent, sunscreen (do not forget we are in the desert), hair

rubber band for long hair(for people with long hair), clothing replacement (in the car for after

the trip), sunglasses.

Recommended - cameras, dried fruit.

We provide:

Qualified rappelling instructors, all necessary equipment for rappelling, Spire water, first aid supplies, coffee / tea. (The trip is Insured accordance with the Israeli law).
